Traveller registration in Catalonia: why SES.Hospedajes won't work
If your property is in Catalonia and you have ended up at SES.Hospedajes, you are missing an important fact: you don’t have to register your travellers there.
The obligation comes from the same place —Royal Decree 933/2021— but the channel is different. In Catalonia the data goes to the Mossos d’Esquadra (the Catalan police), not to the Ministry of the Interior system used in the rest of Spain.
Who it applies to
All establishments providing accommodation in Catalonia: hotels, tourist apartments, country houses and tourist rentals. There is no exception for size or number of beds.
What changes compared with the rest of Spain
| Rest of Spain | Catalonia | |
|---|---|---|
| Where you report | SES.Hospedajes | Mossos d’Esquadra |
| Automatic integration | Yes, via web service | No: you have to upload a file by hand |
| Deadline | 24 hours from the booking | Before the end of the first working day after arrival |
The difference that causes the most work is the second one. The Mossos platform does not support an automatic connection: you have to generate a file with the guests’ details and upload it on their website, one by one for each stay. It can’t be automated end to end as with SES.Hospedajes.
The deadline is different too
While SES.Hospedajes counts 24 hours from the booking, in Catalonia the reference is the arrival: it must be reported before the end of the first working day after the traveller checks in.
Mind the “working”: a traveller who arrives on a Friday night doesn’t have to be reported on Saturday, but must be before the end of Monday.
And registering the property is a different thing
It is best not to mix up two procedures that sound alike:
- Traveller registration: reporting who is staying, every time. It is what this guide is about.
- Tourism Register of Catalonia (RTC): registering the property as tourist accommodation, once, with a responsible declaration. It requires a habitability certificate, an energy certificate and civil liability insurance, among other things.
Without the second you can’t rent. Without the first you can rent, but you are in breach every time someone checks in.
What you can do with our tool
Let’s be clear: today we don’t send to the Mossos d’Esquadra. Our integration is with SES.Hospedajes, so if all your properties are in Catalonia, this doesn’t solve the sending for you yet.
What does help is the part before, which is usually the one that takes the most time: having each guest fill in their details from their phone before arriving, with the validations in place, instead of copying them from their ID at the desk.
If you have properties in Catalonia and in another region, write to us: knowing how many people are in that situation is what will make us prioritise the integration.
